It must be lovely to be able to sing.
I believe that all humans need an emotionally expressive outlet in life, and I believe there is something for everyone... whether it's drawing, painting, writing poetry, playing music, dancing, acting, etc.
For me, drama was one of my most dreaded and worst subjects in school as I hated speaking in front of people, let alone try to act, and I hated it so much and would do anything to get out of drama lessons.
I can't sing either as my voice is way too quiet and I never had singing lessons. I'd like to be able to sing but I wouldn't dare to even try because I know I just can't.
I learned to play both the Irish tin whistle and the piano at age six and sometimes I was made to play in front of the school (which always made me very nervous.) I love playing the piano for my own leisure, or for my friends sometimes, but I get nervous and don't enjoy it as much if strangers in my home, such as repair men and gas men, ask me to play for them, as I feel uncomfortable with people I don't know watching me.
I come from a musical family, so I guess that influenced my love for music and dancing, (my sister does bell ringing in the public gardens of the hometown where I grew up, and she plays the piano, my maternal grandmother played the piano, one of my maternal cousins plays four types of bass guitar in a metal band on the south coast and he also plays the saxophone, my other sister plays the clarinet and guitar, and one of my paternal cousins is a talented pianist and a composer who used to teach music students and he directed some musicals for West End theatre productions.)
I can't draw or paint to save my life, although I love decorating gifts, putting finishing touches on cakes, and making cards.
My neighbour is an art student and he's also a sculptor, plus he plays the guitar quite well.
He finds drawing, painting and sculpting as therapeutic, plus his parents are professional sculptors and artists.... so maybe that's influenced his life-long passion for art.
I think the worst thing to do is to compare yourself to others.... so long as you're happy in life with your hobbies and interests.
