I know what you mean, but as I showed with the Lucy Liu example, it is possible to have very light skin but still not look remotely European (Northern or Southern). It is a complex combination of both features AND pigmentation. Where I DO agree that the concept of 'whiteness' is highly ideological and daft is when people insist that e.g. Greeks and South Italians must look more similar to Danes and Swedes than to Turks and Lebanese just because of them all being White/European, whereas anyone with any knowledge, common sense and without any hang-ups knows it is very much the other way round.

I disagree. in The Spanish empire Spaniards, in their Casta system or in the Estatutos de Limpieza de Sangre, were denominated as whites.

Return to the thread, of course that only having white skin does not mean being white. At least I dont consider whites to all these Euro-Mongols from Northern and Eastern Europe.

Well, obviously the term White in the Western context has primarily been used to denote European ancestry. It is irrelevant what the complexion of the person really is. For example, many of my family members have a milky White complexion and they are probably a closer approximation of "White" in color than many "White" people I see. But obviously they are Chinese genetically and not European, so they are not "White" in the Western social context.

White is such a stupid term. There is no single definition worldwide that defines it. In the U.S. it's European (yet the U.S. Government says it's Europeans, Middle Eastern and North African). In Latin America, they actually follow the same type of definition as the U.S. Census puts out; European, Middle Eastern or North African, so go figure. Now the U.S. has imported it's social definition of "white" to Britain and Britain spread it to Europe. But if you think about it, North Africans and Middle Easterners are so close in genetics and many do look similar to Europeans, even some look whiter than some Europeans. So it's stupid in my eyes. It's a bullshit made up category.

It is very easy to resolve this paradox. White people are all Europeans except the southern ones, while South Europeans, Middle Easterners and North Africans are not white.

That's bullshit. I live in the U.S., place that sent this term into the world and Southern Europeans are white here. White does not equal Northern Europe only. That's Nordicism you are pushing and it's false.
