However, Iloilo is only beautiful from the air when you can see the adjacent island. And unless you go to select districts...
    The place is a mess.

What's actually ironic is that you guys burned down my place, twice during the Dutch-Spanish wars.

There used to be a fortress and castle here; in the first version...
Then kaboom! Dutch invasion of Iloilo! Fortress and castle destroyed (Fort San Pedro gone).

What you see now is different from what we had before. ^_^

Furthermore, the Dutch had a tidy profit from the Visayan slave-market at Batavia when the Moros picked off our Christian population and sold them as slaves there. That's why my Mexican ancestors from Veracruz were stationed (In now ruined) Fort San Pedro to guard against Dutch trepidation.
I know. The Dutch pulled every single nasty trick they could find to make life difficult for the Spanish and their ilk. That's why we had the Golden Age to begin with. We had it at Spain's expense.

Yes.. one of the things I have always noticed in the Philippines is the sheer, mind-boggling carelessness they have for their architectural heritage. It's not just poverty but sheer mindlessness. They don't really attempt to protect it.

Wake up and smell the coffee.

Unfortunately; the most loyal and noble city, had gone down the dumps lately, typhoons and a fire had partially destroyed it.

And now, only about half of it is beautiful.

    The Downtown area

    The Port Area

    Then the Esplanade district.

Are the only really beautiful areas.

The rest is shitty. I suggest you don't visit us here until we are finished with our urban renewal and renovation projects (and flood protection projects too). The earliest tourist-worthy date for this place will be around 2017 or 2018 when we finish demolishing all those ruins and informal settlements and spruce up our restoration works.

I suggest you visit we're we originally came from.

    Padanglawas at Pannai in Sumatra

Before you visit where we immigrated to at Iloilo in Panay island.

In contrast, in find California sooo beautiful.

    San Francisco

    And Los Angeles especially.

But LA has a more Macho beauty to it vis-a-vis San Francisco which is more romance.

Yes, I hate that fact. But we've been changing that lately. I.E: we had just finished restoring Palacio de Gobernador-General in Intramuros and we have begun reconstruction of several ruins here but I wish had done it earlier. We wouldn't have to wait six or seven years fomr now had we done the restoration works earlier.

But anyway, the Dutch had a bad rep in South Africa though. The Afrikaners of Apartheid, being descended from Dutch people and all. But I'm glad your're not one of those people. Meh I support the preservation of the white race and the right of the Afrikaner to their own homeland as we'll as their responsibility to racially cleanse or mestizify the African blacks, I just don't like the unfair social pyramid imposed in Apartheid rule wherein talented people of color where not allowed into office.

The Afrikaners are of Dutch (and Huguenot) descent but they are a separate people. The language is very closely related to Dutch but they aren't Dutch like we are. They have become a different people in their own right.

I think that when the Philippines patches up its heritage it could turn into a very interesting travel destination for people that want to see what a European-influenced Asian culture looks like. Particularly since the Spanish part of the heritage didn't come directly from Spain but through a Mexican filter (because of the galleon trade).

I like that train of thought. Afrikaners differentiating themselves from the Dutch. It's like how we the Visayans of Iloilo differentiated ourselves from our Sri Vijayan origins and then we sent all our mestizos away to Zamboanga (Where they speak Chavacano a creole language of Mexican-Spanish and Visayan-Filipino)

Increase the world's ethnc diversity through differentiation rather than decrease it through unguided mongrelization.

Well.. I understand that mixed marriages will always take place. Particularly in a world that is globalising like never before but with immigration somewhat restricted the number will remain relatively low except for the "meant to be"- cases. Such marriages might come in handy when it comes to trade or maintaining international relations (also trade) as the offspring will receive a bilingual upbringing. But I do think that Afrikaners are no Dutch and Dutch are no Afrikaners. Like we are no Germans. But they are a Dutch people and the Dutch peoples are German peoples by descent but no Germans. So that's my definition of differentiation: all belong to the same family by descent like a second cousin does.
