I have difficult to find information about them in english on Web, but according information I did read they are moroccan jews invited to live in Brazil (Amazonian region) by Brazilian Emperor, during beggining of 19th century.

Interesting they are already two communities:
One was arabian speaker jews (with probable origin in migration from phoenician times).
Other was spanish (Ladino sefarati) like speakers, with origin in the escape from spanish inquisition.

How many of these migrants were single males, much were fast absorbed into local population.

When Jews were expelled from spain, a lot went to Portugal and from there, to the new world. This is well documented. I also remember reading a significant amount of Latin Americans are of Jewish descent.
