The very fact that we pick and chose the "good" parts of the bible is evidence enough
If we followed the bible correctly then if I raped a woman (because if it was a man I would have to be killed ) I would have to apologize to her dad, then marry the woman, and she wouldn't be able to divorce me, her rapist
I don't think I have to give any examples for Islam seeing as all muslim countries are failed states full off corruption, death and war
the truth is Christian inquisitors were following the bible properly

I think everyone needs a codified right and wrong that has some traditional roots. Otherwise you just become brainwashed by whatever messages are around you. Which these days are "white people be evil. People who want to stop immigration be racist. People need to do less with more" etc. etc. etc.

It's not so much about God as having some unwavering moral compass that doesn't sway whatever direction the wind blows. That is the only way for a society to be stable and keep from falling apart or dying out, that's all there is to it.

I saw OP and thought of this particular text in the bible.

The carnal ordinances were made because without laws to provide a basic chassis of how to behave towards others, people run buckwild and do whatever is in their mind, body, and soul to do.

It's not until we truly wake the eff up and can fully incorporate these basics into our life, aka blood, that we will always have to fall on laws(specifically in this topic, religious laws) to tell us how petty we should or shouldn't be.

I believe in balance and in equal exchange. Those both being founded from my own interpretation of what I've learned while religious + life experience.

That's outdated. Do what you can. In other words if you're strong enough to do something such as steal or kill or whatever then do it. Rather, if the victim is weak enough. If the victim is stronger and can retaliate, then obviously one can reconsider.
