mtDNA B4a1a1 is found 60% of New Guinean Archipelago and B4a1a1a1 is found 80-94% of modern Polynesian. Apparently it started out as East Asian origin and branched out from B4a1 9000 years ago however at the same time this Polynesian motif had already evolved 6,000 to 8,000 years ago in the Melanesian regions. However today it is almost non-existent in East Asia and is found only 0.89% in Southern Philippines and 1.4% to 14% in eastern Indonesia ( Polynesian females or New Guinean female migration)
According to scientist. The high genetic drift was the result of a few very successful East Asian women mixing with Melanesian males.

" Examination of mitochondrial DNA lineages shows that they have been evolving within Island Southeast Asia (ISEA) for a longer period than previously believed. Polynesians arrived in the Bismarck Archipelago of Papua New Guinea at least 6,000 to 8,000 years ago, and modern Polynesians are the result of a few Austronesian seafarers mixing with Melanesians.[12]
A study in 2008 argued that Polynesians are distinctive, and "tend to cluster with Micronesians, Taiwan Aborigines, and East Asians, and not Melanesians." The study's conclusion was that "the ancestors of Polynesians moved through Melanesia relatively rapidly and only intermixed to a very modest degree with the indigenous populations there."[14]
