scotland wins more medals than much bigger countries

By looking at the recent Commonwealth games, Scotland with a population just over 5 million people can win overall more medals than India, population over 1 billion people and Pakistan With 180 million people. I wonder why?

India sent a contingent of 215 athletes against 310 of Scotland.In total India won 64 medals against 53 won by Scotland.



There is a reason why India didn't perform well in this commonwealth.Firstly India participated in 14 disciplines as compared to 17 by Scotland.Secondly the sports in which India was traditionally very strong was removed from 2014 edition .

Thirdly in every sporting event,the hosts always has an advantage over the visitors. Fourthly indians are accustomed to humid tropical climate,so participating in a totally different climatic condition affects performance.


You conveniently forgot that in 2010 India won 38 golds where as Scotland won just 9.Also India won a total of 101 medals as opposed to just 26 won by Scotland.
