If you wish to retreat back into the Dark Ages and give quarter to the invaders and describe yourself as Englisc with a 'c', then by all means do, but I will be here in the front line describing myself as English with an 'h', and not letting my peoples evolution be deteriorated by non-English.

I am English. Let that be carved upon my gravestone if it is so.
I seem to be starting S*** everywhere! NOT my intention!

In some ways (being 50+) being told I am childish is OK.... My blood line goes far, what is wrong in wishing to resurrect a "dead" language, the Scots have their language, the Welsch theirs. We Englisc have ours.

It is part of my personal mission to (re)learn the olde tongue. What can be wrong with that? If all we English would do so, perhaps we could talk amongst ourselves without being interfered by political correctness and having to continually apologise for being English, it really isn't (for me) a retreat but certainly a distinction...
"English" being the "international language" is understood and spoken by most of the world!
Would it not be advantageous for us to speak a language not so well comprehended?
Please consider, fellow friend from Wessex.

    Howdo, EN!

Don't pay too much attention to the miserable buggers here! 'Englisc' should be better recognisable to the layman than at present. If seeing such a term around gets just one person thinking about his ethnic heritage a little more, then that's a good thing.

And Beorny is being daft, given the absurd Old English middle name he gave his kid...

Yes, that's correct - Englisc is Old English for "English" (and this applies to both the nationality and the language, as it does today). The difference in spelling is merely a product of the conventions in place at the time - it was pronounced exactly the same.

    I don't think you're starting anything either.

In some ways (being 50+) being told I am childish is OK.... My blood line goes far, what is wrong in wishing to resurrect a "dead" language, the Scots have their language, the Welsch theirs. We Englisc have ours.
That's all good and I can agree with you there. The Scots have the choice of using Scots or Gaelic. The Welsh have their Welsh language to hold onto. Even the Cornish have their own language to learn and uniform under as one.

What do we English have though? We don't seem to have a language that separates us from the rest of the world, nor do we have a language with which to be proud of and show off at the slightest chance...

...hang on! I've just been speaking perfect English for the last two paragraphs. Who needs to retreat and insist we learn an old and useless language? We have one given to us through the evolution of our own people. Let's use that instead.

It is part of my personal mission to (re)learn the olde tongue. What can be wrong with that?
Nothing at all. It is the excuses that are used by supporters of rising Old English that irk me more, as you go on to say...

If all we English would do so, perhaps we could talk amongst ourselves without being interfered by political correctness and having to continually apologise for being English, it really isn't (for me) a retreat but certainly a distinction...
I don't apologise for being English. Never have, and never will. If someone doesn't like my opinion then they can go fuck their own mother up the arse for all I care.

I will not be cowed into submission and dictated to by non-English people.

The English should want to learn the Old English because it would be a culturally enriching aspect of our English identity. Not as some excuse to speak in hushed tones.

"English" being the "international language" is understood and spoken by most of the world!
It's great ain't it. To know that your ancestors were that strong and brave and superior compared to the rest of the world that now they have to conduct themselves with our language.

Haha! We even have some Bulgarians crying into their milky hot chocolates about our greatness only last century.

Would it not be advantageous for us to speak a language not so well comprehended?
Hmm? Sometimes. But I'd only use it to piss off the Welsh.

That was a tribute towards my (then) recently deceased grandmother. He won't have to use it. I won't call him it either ... unless he brings round the women and I want to embarrass him

Welcome EngliscNative, I have also thought about learning old English. In fact, I have asked my wife to consider a few names with regards to children, her and my brothers are not keen, though she has considered some of the names I have mentioned if we have triplets. up
