There have been articles like this for a number of years about homes in Sicily being sold for basically nothing.

Gangi isn't very far from my mother's hometown. It is in Southeastern Palermo, in the Madonie mountains. If you're looking for the Mediterranean, you're as far as it gets. If you're looking for city life, you're also as far as it gets. Took me about two hours to get there from Palermo.

But if you want a quiet rural traditional Sicilian experience, you're in the right place.

It's disappointing, but then again much of what goes on in Sicily is disappointing.
