Default Steve Jobs iPhone monument dismantled in St. Petersburg

A monument to Apple co-founder Steve Jobs was taken down in St Petersburg on October 31 but reports of its removal surfaced only on Monday.

The two-metre (6.5 feet) high iPhone, the biggest such monument in the world, belonged to a group of companies called ZEFS. It was set up in January 2013 in the yard of the National Research University of Information Technologies (ITMO University).

The owners of the monument have said they were motivated in removing the structure for two major reasons. The first referred to last week's announcement by Apple CEO Tim Cook that he was openly gay. ZEFS have reportedly stated that they were seeking to comply with a law that bans the promotion of "nontraditional sexual relations among minors." The second reason was recent leaks by the former NSA contractor Edward Snowden which indicated that Apple devices were used by US intelligence agencies to spy on people worldwide.

The monument, in the shape of a giant iPhone 4G, was equipped with an interactive touch screen that provided information about the founder of Apple. On the back side of the monument there was a QR-code, which forwarded to a website dedicated to Steve Jobs.

GJ, like americans would make monuments for our dead scientists & interpretenuers or other non americans. We should question our self why we did it even in the first place.

Is it just me, or is this an absolute joke?

    1) Steve Jobs wasn't gay. Steve Wozniak isn't gay. They're the ones who created and pioneered Apple.
    2) Why not ban apple products if this statue is so offensive?
    3) By removing the statue, isn't Russia bringing more attention to their disgust of gay people? Russia's excuse for their anti-LGBT policy is that "Gays aren't bad, we just don't want them bring so open about it", and yet they're removing a statue to make a point about being ashamed for being gay.
    4) Why not ban Apple products if this is so offensive to Russia?
    5) Why not ban internet, as the pioneer (Alan Turing) was gay?
    6) Why not erase Tchaikovsky from history?

Moral of the story: This move was not about making a point, or being logical. This stunt was purely to piss of the west. How mature.

RussiaPrussia, I want to know your opinion on this. Do you think removing the statue because the current CEO of Apple is gay is normal?

    (Anyway, only in Russia...)

Try read article again. It clearly says "belonged to a group of companies called ZEFS". This is matter of this groups of companies. Otherwise i can write many (idiotic and moronic?) examples "only in XXXXX"
Russia is public opinion or (speaking on behalf of state) official, anything else is personal issues of certain individuals or groups of individuals.

key word "ZEFS". They have not stated authorities or citizens demanded so. It is their private business.
