    Default J2 Haplogroup

So I got some questions about the J2 haplogroup. It seems to be carried around Mediterranean people, and I was wondering, where exactly does it originate? Is it a European gene? Thanks in advance!

It's homeland is outside of Europe in the Fertile Crescent, see map posted above.

However it's been in Europe for at least 6,000-8,000 years.

Maybe...we have no record of it there...yet. I would guess a lot of it came in the Iron age.

Well it's not like we have that many Neolithic samples. How many we have? Like half a dozen? lol

The geneticits all pretty much date it's initial entrance into the European population much earlier than the Iron age, but of course the Iron age could have substantially added to that.

I think some of it is Neolithic, some of it is more recent non-european, in them. Why? Because, how on earth would they STILL have so man Neolithic haplogroups? It just doesn't make any sense. I think, if it was entirely Neolithic, they should have no more occurrences of J2, than, say, Iberia. But, it is WAY higher in S Italy. I doubt that Sicilians are THAT Neolithic, with all the different populations pouring in.

J2 is actually pretty rare in the Non European groups that invaded Sicily, in particular the Moors and Saracens...they would have been predominately E-M81 and J1.
