I am not shitting on the Proto-Slavs. I am just saying, they were low-level infantry with rudimentary weapons at first. They were the probably 'Scythian farmers" i.e. the slave class of the Scythians. Historically, they are invisible until they become the vassals of Avars and Bulgars.

But Slavs conquered the Balkans because there were literally no armies there to stop them. Doing bigger and better things off in the East...

Yeah, there's no way to word this without coming off as anti-Slavic.
