My encounters with fundamentalists have been decidedly unpleasant. You have my sympathy, sir.

Its not only intellectually discomforting but they are so forceful and conformist oriented that if you for a second try to espouse your opinion its off to be racked. If they feel they can't win the rational argument they will throw every kind of absurd and nonsensical argument at you with no rational or logical basis. They always do a good job at bringing out the the nastier side of myself I always feel like slamming them over the head with a beer bottle.

Yeah, I know what you mean. It's like trying to have a reasonable conversation with a member of the Taliban. I don't understand why you have to be vehemently against the "symbols" and archetypes of Christianity that is the one thing I don't understand about some radical forms of Atheism. Jesus according to the Bible had some Common sense things to say that said a lot of people take his "words" out of context and misinterpret them. I believe in Nietzche's assertion that Jesus is the innocent victim of Christianity's violations and blasphemies which they have constructed through the quibberings of clergymen on dogmatical issues.
