Thats what I had In mind when I said that.A lot of people use the legion to get the card. You learn french, you make a good sum for your service, and you become a green beret. If you make it out that is.

I`m surprised you know about the legion.

Doing 5 years of Légion just to enter the GIGN is a bit overkill Plus you'd need to be recruited as a Gendarme first, and then try the recruitment procedure of the GIGN down the line (which is possible until you're 34).

In my 20's I was considering to join the legion for all the reasons you mention above, but not the 2nd Airbone Batallion they are the top notch and honestly It might turn out too much for me, maybe a Cavalry Batallion would have suited me better, After thinking it over I decided not to join, I think all the military are just cannon fodder to serve the political elite and rich interests, you put your life in danger, you sweat suffer and bleed while others are just getting fat and earning millios of dollars, I decided not to go and I dont regret.

The Battle of San Pasqual was a military encounter that occurred during the Mexican-American War in what is now the San Pasqual Valley community of the city of San Diego, California. On December 6 and December 7, 1846, the Californios, and their Presidial Lancers, led by General Don Andres Pico, (1810-1876), defeated Stephen W. Kearny´s US Army column of 150 men.

It might be overkill but I bet you with the credentials of having served in the legion would help you a lot.

Well in my point of view its better than sitting on a desk of paperwork a whole life and doing nothing.I would not want to live a life like that.

Life as a soldier fighting for someone else's interest is at least interesting, every day is different, you probably heard the funny saying "Travel the world, meet interesting people, kill them"

So after you chose not to join the legion, what did you begin to work and still work? You're a settled man with a family but I never really knew what you actually do.

Lol, perhaps I fit the stereotype of what you mentioned:Sitting on a desk worring everyday for things that are actually not that relevant, I am a manager and have a quiet life, but I dont regret because I have my family and my boy who is the best part of my whole life, youre right regarding the part that becoming a military has its exiting side and when you get old you could have a lot of exiting stories to tell to your grand sons...if you survive.

I donno bro, I partially agree with you, being a military has its romantic and exiting side, but just remember, bullets kill your enemies but bullets also can kill you and maybe get killed is the least of a military's problem: What about getting handycaped?..... Have you thought about it?.... and the worts part would be getting killed of getting on a wheel chair just to fight for the interest of the rich elite and he crooked politicians that just keep safe warm and surrounded of luxury, booze and beautiful women?... Nope, Sir, I'm not lifting a finger for them.

Well I chose the police special forces already,I think I'd not trade it for the legion.

I will be still serving the interests of crooked politicians, but at least I will have the opportunity to escort some lowlife people out of this world.Serve one devil to kill another is what I call it.

As far as you,you don't have much to regret about not joining the legion.Every man takes his path and since you are happy and surrounded by a good family you took the right one for yourself.
