I've been there and it felt similar to Czech Republic, Swiss or even Hungary. Different to Southern Balkans but still traditional and homely feel to it. So I would say it has Central European feel to it as a whole with some "Balkan" influence due to proximity and shared history.

All jokes asides, yes, the Croatians don't feel Balkan to me (and I'm just talking about ones from Slavonia, which is like freaking 10 miles away from me). They're usually condensing towards us and make trips into Bosnia seem like safari when they come here, and frankly speaking they come off quite queer with their speech.

I tend to think Balkan area is just a geographic region with much cultural, religious and ethnic diversity. It has been ruled by many empires and divided by them often, so you get many influences, that are not evenly spread and not all peoples and countries have to be the same.

Their original fatherland was Holy Roman Empire and later the Habsburg Monarchy, if we don't consider the relatively short lived slavic realm of Caranthania.

The music of those three (I doubt you can come up with the fourth one and that joke of a song of Vuco there is particularly Balkan sounding) is certainly the most Balkan influenced, but quite far from some of your stuff you won't find there.
You won't find shit like this there:

The shit above is widely popular across Balkans except in Croatia where it has the least support, especially in southern regions ironically. You won't find people singing that shit in front of TV here. Others try to equate Severina's and Rozga's singing with this shit.
The most widely spread type of music from where Vuco, Rozga and Severina are from:
