Funny you mention the word "colonials"...I had never ever thought of myself as a colonial until I came upon these international fora. It took me quite a while to get my head wrapped around the whole concept actually and I'm not sure I still accept it or even acknowledge it. I mean I've always had a clear concept of self: Canadian, French Canadian, more precisely. But other than that, that's all I've ever seen myself as.
I'm not keen on the whole colonial term actually and find it utterly useless as a term since we've not been colonists for eons now. It would just be nice for some Europeans to wrap that notion around their heads for a change!![]()

Those kinds of snobs are under the delusion that, since our ancestors transferred from Europe to America, that we're not entitled to call ourselves European or European-descended. This is less true for Canada and more true for the U.S., so I've noticed. I find this attitude to be snobbish and a bit elitist, as if one is better simply because one is born in Europe- well, so too are many Muslims for example.

Ou est JP?

You know what pisses me off is people from France who hate on French-Canadians.
My grandfather and many boys from my hometown went kicking Nazi ass all across Europe. You're welcome!

That's one of the reasons why I set up this group, for people like us who can post without that sort of smarmy superiority some of the forum's members have shown to North Americans in the past.
