    Default How Does English Sound?

How does English sound to non-English speakers? I have heard some say it is like Dutch or maybe even Swedish.

Is it true it sounds effeminate or "gay"?

I thought it sounded like Non-melodic Swedish with Dutch vibes.

I almost forgot how it sounded before understanding.

And we have to keep in mind that we're exposed to it everyday in tv movies and serials.

Maybe for that reason it never sounded strange to me. Other languages usually have a noticeable intonation and weird sounds, while English always sounded neutral and soft.

The most noticeable feature of English is the way the R is pronounced, which is softer than ours.

I don't know, grown so used to it that it doesn't sound weird to me unless it's being spoken by Scots, that pronunciation just sounds wrong to me...

To non-English speakers who haven't had much contact with it, it sounds like a sort of wachy wachy kay, wachy wachy yeishon..., all said with a Donald Duck's voice.

None of any Germanic language. It doesn't sound like anything else.

It's an amalgamation of several Celtic/Germanic languages and is also influenced heavily by Latin.

The French used to say that to them it sounded like the meowing of cats.
