Thread dedicated to this unique Catalan tradition.
I'll begin by posting a graphic sample of the most difficult structures. The pictures in this first post will only show the 7-level castells, the easiest of the difficult/scoring levels.
4d7 (Quatre de Set)
Four people per level, 7 levels high.
The easiest among the scoring ones (Complete: 200p/Topped: 175p).
(In the pic, the Vilanova Bordegassos)
3d7 (Tres de Set)
Three people/level, 7 levels high.
Complete: 126p, Topped: 106p.
(In the pic, the Castellers of Lleida)
3d7a (Tres de Set amb Agulla)
3 people/level, 7 levels high, and a 'needle' within, which means that a standing-alone pillar of five people hiding inside the structure shows up once the structure is dismantled.
Complete: 154p, Topped: 130p.
(In the pic, the L'Arboç Minyons. One can see the 'needle' turning up as it's being dismantled)
4d7a (Quatre de Set amb Agulla)
4 people/level, 7 levels high, and a five-people pillar within.
Complete: 159p, Topped: 135p.
(In the pic, the Colla Jove 'Young Band' of Vilafranca. The structure is being topped -notice the topper 'flapping his wing'- while the pillar's still being built within)
(In the pic, the Castellers of Esplugues. Again, one can see the 'needle' remaining when the castell is about to be finished)
5d7
Five people per level, 7 levels high.
Complete: 171p, Topped: 145p.
(In the picture, the 5/7 is being built by three colles 'bands' from different Barcelonan neighbourhoods)
3d7ps (Tres de Set per sota)
3/7 from beneath, meaning the structure's top is built first and then each of the levels is raised from beneath.
Complete: 193p, Topped: 163p.
(In the picture, the whole sequence with the Castellers of Barcelona)
9d7 (Nou de Set)
A 'compound-structure' castell, formed by a central 3 structure plus 2 structures (towers) on the sides. An unusual one, as it requires a lot of people and bands who've got that many people prefer to raise more difficult ones.
Complete: 243p, Topped: 206p.
(In the picture, the Valls Xiquets Colla Jove 'Young Band' raising it at Tallin, Estonia)
2d7 (Dos de Set, aka Torre de Set '7-level Tower' or the Pubilla dels Castells 'the Young Lady')
Only two people per level, 7 levels high. The most difficult in the 7-level ones, as difficult as some 8-level ones for many people.
Complete: 258p, Topped: 218p.
(In the picture, the same band of the previous pic but raising a 2/7 in 1932)
(Here, the 7-level Tower raised by the Castellers of Vilafranca at Battery Park, New York)
