I remember it being derived from a language spoken by natives in Brazil, though I can't remember the name. The original word was something along the lines of "nanas"

In French as it's written. Ah Nah Nahs /a.na.nas/. Some people apparently don't pronounce the s at the end, but I've always heard it with s.
