It matter to us non-chineses or non-asians because you are bringing up how we feel in relation to this fact. But that's not how the chinese people feel. Your argument is based on a feeling that you share with most people on the western hemisphere, but chinese shouldn't base their habits on how we feel.

The history of dogs in our societes is not the same as the history of dogs in their society, they took a different road and there is no objective moral reason for us to condemn it. Whatever the reason chineses started to domesticate dogs thousands of years ago, for a long time they have been thinking of dogs no different than we think of pigs.

Besides, if it is our history with dogs that justifies our sympathy for them, they might as well say its their different history with dogs that justifies their lack of sympathy for dogs.

The problem with basing the value of the life of a dog in how we interact with them and then claiming objectivity is that you treat the value of a life as an imposed attribute, so in this logic dogs lives have value because you and some people say they do, but that's not an intrinsic property of dogs. If chinese people say they do not because that's how they think of dogs then this is a discussion about feelings and culture, but it is not objective. If you want to claim you repudiate the idea of eating dog meat, that's fine, but you don't repudiate it for objective reasons that can be universalized even if there is a rationale behind it.

No because we developed cattle and sheep specifically for human consumption, the same evolutionary pressure was not applied to fill the same niche as for dogs.

You don't understand I am not basing this argument on emotion I am basing it on the development of the species itself. And I could sit here and explain this to you far better if i had not been up for more than 48 hrs now but i cant be arsed to stay awake much longer. Just think this way. Man no eat wolf wolf come close to man, wolf become dog after thousands of years of man no eat wolf relationship and pressure make wolfe evolve into dog. = man create dog. Dog is direct product of this. Now Man eat end result of this product? That is contrary to the result. Makes sense? If not its prob not because you're daft, but because I am a sleep zombie. ALSO they CANNOT say it is their history with dogs which jistifies their lack of sympathy for them because that is the end result = DOG. Not wolf. So nobody can talk about their history with Dog because how did they get dog to begin with??? Me sleep now. Ill be back though!

The argument my 48 hr of no sleep brain was attempting to make was that it is not their nor, out history with dogs that matters. It is humanities history with dogs as a whole. The history of the development of the dog is not ours nor theirs, it is a part of HUMAN history.

You make a good argument but I am still not sure if this is inherently wrong. It's hard for life-long cultural bias not to have some effect on opinion.

I have nothing against it as long as the dogs are allowed to live a good life, are treated with respect and slaughtered painlessly. Carnivorous animals aren't as healthy to eat, don't taste as good, and aren't as sustainable to raise both econimacally and environmentally as herbivorous animals though. I don't really get why anyone would want to eat dog except as a 'cultural thing'.

The Chinese often mistreat the dogs they eat though, often even in a sadistic way and don't have any form of respect for their life or suffering. That, of course is a big problem.
