Well, it's a complicated thing, i define the soul as a kind of intangible energy that enlivens the substance and survives the physical deterioration of it(sound a bit from vocabulary but i didn't use it).

As for the concept, i think soul is a noumenon, something intelligible but impossible to demonstrate scientifically, so from a ration/ scientifical point of view my answer should be not or i don't know. From a moral and sentimental point of view my answer is yes, because it constitutes a posite idea for the life and for the human conduct.

Why do humans need to admit the existence of soul to act well?
Isn't the awarness that all people own a brain, feel emotions and have desires enough to act well precisely for the fact that we are mortal?

Not enough i think, and not for all people, there are a lot of cultural and religious differences. Personally i think that leaving a good memory to posterity should be enough
