Opinions on Amish/Mennonite people?

What are you opinions on the Amish and Old Order Mennonites? I like these people, they are like Boers in some ways. They are Germanic conservative Christian farmer colonials. They stick to their own and preserve old German culture. They even speak an old dialect of German. What do you think?

They are missing out on a lot of fun the world has to offer,thats basically what I think of their lifestyles.

Good thing about them is that they are good people and never cause any problems.

There aren't many round these parts.
I read one that like, they let the guys and girls go out for like a weekend and if they want to, they can choose to stay and live normally or go back to their villages.

Dunno, seems too weird for me, but different strokes for different folks.

The Amish operate a patriarchal society, and sexual abuse has been known to occur, including incest and pedophilia. For all intents and purposes, it is impossible to tell how bad the problem is, because it is handled within the community. The punishment for confessing to rape isn't particularly draconian either, the rapist is banned from church activities for six weeks, until he shows that he is genuinely sorry. The Amish are more concerned with the person being honest about what he has done, than with the actual crime itself. Bizarrely, the same punishment is leveled for drinking to excess.

I intensely dislike their Luddite, Pacifist and Protestant religion. The only thing they have going for them is their insular ethno-religous society with high birth rates, something other White people should be emulating if we want survive.

I have no feelings one way or the other towards them. It's not like Mennonites or the Amish are mugging people on the streets and so they're not an issue to me.

Amish are living in their own world and are closed off from society. In a way I admire them for this but man you are also missing out. Good people nonetheless.
