    Shakugan-no-Shana

The plot (and the drawing style too) are so stereotypical for anime that it hurts, but the romance + comedy elements make the anime pretty watchable.

I can't believe I managed to miss this thread.

Probably the best anime I've watched:

    Legend of the Galactic Heroes

It's about an intergalactic German Empire vs. an intergalactic Russia/China Empire. Only the movies are good, the TV show is too slow and long.

I really liked this Lupin III movie - Castle of Cagliostro.

    5 Stages of Grief:

Denial: The initial stage: "It can't be happening." Maniot is on top of me.
Anger: "Why ME? It's not fair?!" (either referring to God, oneself, or Maniot perceived, rightly or wrongly, as "responsible")
Bargaining: "Just let me stay to post another day Maniot, please."
Depression: "I'm so sad, why are you picking on me Maniot?"
Acceptance: "It's going to be OK." There is always Skadi.

I stopped watching most cartoons when I finished high-school,I can remember the I liked Slayers http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1QdtEXexKns .
Nowadays I only watch Hellsing OVA(whenever it appears - they usually make 1 episode/year).

If you want to see an animated movie I suggest Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade (1999) . The action takes place in an alternate universe where the Germans won World War 2 and bombed Japan with an atom bomb.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8oui3kAkUqE It's also hand drawn(if it matters to you).

According to the folk tradition it leaves the child by beating.

When unsuccessfull, more hard methods are well in place. Anime is a serious matter.

Strangely, the image for my first suggestion is gone. The suggested anime was Elfen Lied, for anyone getting to the party late:

However, I also recommend a couple other decent pieces:

Utawarerumono actually began it's life as an H-game, but I thought it was rather tastefully adapted into this anime. Warning: filler ending.

Ergo Proxy is just a spectacular post-apocalyptic cyberpunk anime, but because of the amount of Western philosophical imput, it does tend to be something of a, for lack of a better word, mindf***.

I seriously can't believe no one posted Ghost in the Shell. I enjoy all the GitS variations, but the series was a particular favourite of mine.

I have to admit, for as obscene as the series can sometimes be (what do you expect? The artists started out drawing hentai manga), I enjoy Hellsing. I thought the OVA has been particularly well-done, and ranks among one of my most embarassing guilty pleasures (the other being High School of the Dead). We'll see how the latest additions do (I haven't seen VIII, IX, or X).
