Default Are south Indians quieter and more reserved than north Indians?

I have noticed that people from north India, especially towards Punjab and Gujarat tend to be more outgoing, extroverted and generally louder than darker Indians from the south who seem to have a more gentle and meek nature.

The Gypsies (who are the ancient Indian diaspora in Europe) have more similar culture/mentality to the your description of North Indians. They are loud and like the big groups.

North India is the homeland of Gypsies, so this is not suprising.
