Which ethnic group/nationality is harder to place and classify - French or Cypriots?

(1) FRENCH: Unlike most European countries, which are clearly either Northern or Southern European, France is very much a mixture of both, and it is hard to say which one dominates over the other there.

(2) CYPRIOTS: Unlike most countries in West Eurasia, which are clearly either European or Middle Eastern, Cyprus is very much a mixture of both, and it is hard to say which one dominates over the other there.

Cyprus wouldn't be difficult to characterize if it wasn't for exceptions within Europe that are still European but closer to Cyprus than to many other Europeans -- Crete, Sicily/Calabria etc. Malta and so on.

France is similar to many other European nations.

French, because they are also very varied on pigmentation - can have both pale and swarthy skin, both blonde and dark hair, both dark and light eyes, while Cypriots almost always have dark pigmentation and Mediterrenean-derived race.
