FN FAL Self-Loading Rifle chambered for .308 / 7.62mm.
Weapon Review:
DSA Fully forged upper receiver, picatinny rail
Chinese imported scope x6 w/illuminated reticule
This weapon is made in Austria, exported to the USA and is the carbine variant of the FN FAL. Being made in Austria meant that a very ergonomic set of bipod legs were incorporated into the forestock. These give the effect of being integrated, however they are removable.
This is a DSA built weapon of high-quality, compared with a Century Arms 'FrankenFAL' construction. The Century Arms variants are less well regarded, imperial and metric conversions and mix and matching of parts does cause teething issues.
Back in the 1990s these were at sub $1000 prices. Nowadays (2014) you're looking at $2000 for a DSA FN FAL Battle Rifle.
Pros / Pluses to the FN FAL
.308 / 7.62 x 51 NATO is a Hard-hitting round.
Very accurate.
Authentic piece of European Culture / Right Arm of the Free World
Advanced features like integrated bipod (some models only) and gas-port selection.
Ergonomic.
Easy to field-strip.
It's a Black Rifle.
Cons/Drawbacks to the FN FAL
Long and a bit awkward for patrolling and shouldering (unless well used to it). Ideally a bug-in rifle, not a bug-out rifle.
More difficult for modern-day soldiers to get to grips with unless heavily trained on it.
No Forward Assist (Not essential in most theaters).
Difficult to mount a scope (Unless you've got a DSA variant / Good gunsmith access)
