I think not just language counts. People have to be like the Latin Europeans culturally,mentality-wise, self-perception and at least in large part by ancestry. I think Latin Europeans can best say. And do Latin Americans consider themselves Latin, when not living in the US.

I've read that in Mexico and most Central and South American coutries, the Spanish conquistadores are hated and seen as villains. Supposedly even many whites prefer to identify with the Amerindians instead. The Mexican flag has in the middle as an emblem, the motif from an Aztec legend. They build statues to old indigenous chiefs and emperors, but not to Spanish exploreres and conquerors. This apparently has been the case for generations and has nothing to do with any US or European influences, Supposedly many hate Spain too. The ''Latino'' moniker is more popular in the diaspora in the US and was invented for them by Americans. Is this accurate?

The latin identity is a very weak one. It's rare when i see someone mentioning it... last time i remember seeing the term being applied was when Acelotti was comparing british fans to the ones on latin countries. So, it's a term or identity of little importance.

But if I haven't said it publically, I live in South America.
I have several neighbors that have Italian passports.
Some of them have lived in Italy for extended periods.
They all tell me the same thing:
That here is the same as Italy. Same bullsh*t corruption. Same style of TV shows.

This is why I see ethicity and culture as 2 seperate things altogether.
Back to the drawing board!

Not even white americans or britons are anglo-saxon.. The anglo-saxon ancestry in the english speaking world is tiny.
