Bump. So "bald" means "bold" in Old Germanic from what I've read. No idea what "Erlem" might mean though. Any cognates in other Germanic languages?

Herlembald is listed in the Altdeutsches Namenbuch as a derivative of the Germanic element erl meaning "nobleman". The second element is bald ("bold"), a very common element in Ancient Germanic names.
