    In Jungian psychology the dragon might represent the repressed dark side of our personalities. I'm writing a paper on the subject this semester with the thesis that: Every significant dragon in Norse mythology embodies the nemesis archetype.

    This seems to go with what my prof said. She said that the Dragon, Grendel, and Grendel's mother were all symbolic of political instability and Beowulf was the man who ended it.
