I support the wearing of school uniforms. It gives children a sense that we're studying when we're dressed in our formal school uniforms and a sense of belonging. Pupils keep our uniforms smart for school, and when it's time to relax and play, we'd wear our casual clothes at home.
It stops children from being distracted over deciding what to wear, or from worrying about who is wearing the most stylish clothes, and they will feel as equals with other students in the same school.
Sometimes we'd have a day at school where our parents donated a very small fee and children were allowed to wear our own clothes on one day of the year and the money went to charity. Our parents were notified by letter about this 2 weeks in advance, so that pupils had time to think about and prepare what they would wear to school on that day.
I remember it felt weird and distracting on those charity days where pupils were dressed in their own clothes and school pupils were judging each other and making comparisons over what pupils were wearing.
Each school has its own uniform and people can identify which school a child belongs to if they go missing.
