Standing for a service for two hours?? At least in the Catholic church you can sit for a while and they keep you awake by making you stand, kneel and sit at regular intervals. My grandmother (who was extremely anti anything to do with religion) married my Catholic grandfather and at the beginning of their relationship she went to a few Masses. She said it was like an aerobics class - stand, kneel, sit, kneel, sit, stand. Needless to say once they were married she never went to church again.

I am not a regular attender of the churche. As far as I can remember most services are 2-3 hours long between 9-12 on Sundays. Some important celebrations are night long. Generally people are standing in Orthodox churches and there are no benches or chairs for people . Although, staning is not necessary for everyone. Elderly, disabled and ill can leave or sit if they can't stand. I can't remember people kneeling either. Although some bend as they prayed.

The Orthodox churches I've been in here in USA have benches (pews). Otherwise, I don't think anyone would attend and they would go out of business. When I was a kid, I went to lots of Orthodox funerals. Often we were in the front pew. The priest throwing the incense around once caused me to become gravely nauseated.

There's an Orthodox church being built right down the road from me. I'm wondering where they plan to get their parishioners. It's not common in this area.

Ancient Faith Radio. I thought this website was about Slavic Native faith. I guess "ancient faith" is Orthodoxy.

This Orthodox podcast on Ancient Faith Radio will certainly bring in new members.

    Sexual Purity

On a new "Rain in the Desert," Fr. Apostolos Hill, Dean of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Phoenix, AZ, shares about sexual purity. "We cannot, we dare not, manufacture a false gospel that dismisses chastity and sexual purity because maintaining them is difficult."
