The first two performances seem to have a New Age flavour to them. The third seems to have been influenced by rap. Are these authentic performances of yoik music or have they been corrupted by modern influences ?

Aside from the fact that it is Sami music [and maybe that can not be set aside] what was there about yoik music that led it to be so strongly opposed especially by the Danish Lutheran clergy in Norway, that every effort was made to suppress or even eradicate it ?

Wimme Saari is best known (I suppose) for his ambient collaboration with the Finnish group Rinneradio. It is an authentic recording, in the sense that the singing hasn't been sampled into the track.

The last one I posted as a joke more than anything else. Waltari (or should I say their frontman, Kärtsy Hatakka) employ a chaotic modus operandi in which the kitchen sink is not enough. Mixing metal, rap and joikhing is something one would expect from them.

^I did try to look for some older, authentic Yoik videos but couldn't find any. I remember when I was a kid (1970s), there used to be a kid's tv series which was shown here - it was filmed in the Sami area and the theme tune featured Yoik singing.

I recently stumbled upon this awesome performance. It is Karelian yoik, which I did not even know existed. I am not sure how authentic it is, though.
