Default Folk Music

In this thread, I advocate the sharing of our cultural richnesses in the form of music. Post a clip from YouTube or anywhere else from a great composer of yours...or just a nice little folk song! On with the propaganda!

Fine-fine, I'll start, you lazies.

Brahms, Hungarian Dance No. 1
Brahms, Hungarian Dance No. 5
Weren't composed by a Hungarian, but they're about the country, magnificently reflecting our spirit and culture. Hail Brahms!
Here is a slower, more melancolic version of No. 1, that might be even more matching.

Bánk Bán - Hazám, hazám
Roughly translates to 'Home, Home', this is the main and most famous song of a theatrical piece called Bánk Bán, a patriotic story set in the XIIIth Century. The tenor is magnificent.

Ott ahol zúg az a négy folyó
Somewhat instrumentally modern version, but the vocal is perfectly traditional and professional. The title means 'There, where the four rivers rumble', and it refers to Transylvania, which was taken away from Hungary first in 1920 and second in 1944. Note the positive Romanian comments below.

Szép vagy, gyönyörű vagy Magyarország - Radio broadcast from the fourties
Szép vagy, gyönyörű vagy Magyarország - Presented by the Reformed Church of Sárospatak
And finally, possibly the most beautiful Hungarian patriotic song ever came to be, this too was born in the revisionist era(between the two World Wars). The title translates to 'Hungary, you're fair, you're beautiful'.

C'moon...let's hear something Germanic already! Germans up and down, Anglos here and down under, Scandinavians all over, should I just assume you're so much in awe that you're ashamed to match my post?

Post, post, post!

Hey! Nice thread. I don't have speakers at work so will have to wait till I get home to listen and post some folk songs from SA.

Ok....take note that this is what I like, not what is generally considered as likeable in my country

Jani Christou - Praxis for 12 (embedding disabled)

Iannis Xenakis - Metastasis (Spectral View)

Diamanda Galas - Exeloume

and here's a (neo)folk song for you, because you asked it.

Daemonia Nymphe - Dance of the Satyrs

I'm sleepy now, but I'll post more information about the artists, tomorrow
