I can't speak for Alessio, but my perspective has always been that e.g. Swedes and Maltese both look equally European, but they are very different kinds of Europeans, in the same way that Japanese and Malays both look equally East Asian, but they are very different kinds of East Asians, or how Lebanese and Omanis both look equally Arab, but they are very different kinds of Arabs. Is that too hard to understand?
