The problem with these communities tends to be some people work harder and/or are more efficient than others and yet everyone gets the same piece of the pie. It obviously creates resentment.

and honestly, I've seen that difference in work effort not make a difference when I visit monasteries, so, I'd imagine when there's a white ethno-village it would be similar, everyone's love and gladness to be away from the mainstream society would overwhelm any rivalries.

I guess it's depends of the group, in a hippie commune it's sure that some people would do all the work and some others are going to lay down and smoke pot all day. But in traditional societies age and gender roles are well established, and everybody has to do the same amount of job, like in a well functioning family.

In traditional societies there are people who are better workers than others. Doing the same amount of work doesn't mean the same amount of efficiency. I did speak of efficiency also. Anyway, this society sounds like it sucks major balls.

There is no need to abandon electricity or combustion engines to have a self sufficient agricultural community. the questions are, the production should be oriented to the subsistence or to the markets needs?, and how should the profit be distributed among the members?.
