DELAND — A world history textbook that sparked a heated controversy over the way it covers Islam will remain in Volusia County high schools, the School Board decided Monday after hearing four hours of public comments about its merits and shortcomings.

“I'm still confident with this book and its presentation to our students,” School Board Chairwoman Diane Smith said after hearing from nearly 80 speakers with widely differing opinions.

The board didn't take a formal vote, but only member Linda Costello pushed for a more thorough review. Candace Lankford, Stan Schmidt and Ida Wright sided with Smith to keep the textbook in Volusia classrooms.

“It's kind of what I would have expected,” said Walter Hanford, a book opponent who stuck around long enough to hear the board discussion. Hanford told the board earlier in the meeting the “World History” textbook published by Prentice Hall “whitewashes” the history of Islam and its Muslim followers, including involvement in the 9/11 terrorist attacks and the shootings at Fort Hood, Texas.

The textbook controversy erupted in early November after a Deltona High parent complained about the book's treatment of the Islamic religion to a Lake County friend, who posted information on Facebook and organized a protest rally before the School Board's Nov. 5 meeting.

The Nov. 5 meeting was canceled before it began over security concerns and the controversy has continued to simmer, with Volusia County Republican Executive Committee Chairman Tony Ledbetter taking leadership of the textbook protest.

The atmosphere at Monday's meeting was quieter with opponents and supporters of the textbook filling the boardroom to overflowing while a small number of people milled around outside.

Two Brevard School Board members are reviewing a world history textbook used in ninth grade Advance Placement classes amid concerns that it is biased in favor of Islam - at the expense of Christianity and Judaism.

House Representative Ritch Workman and individuals from two citizens groups spoke against the textbook, Prentice Hall World History, at the Brevard School Board meeting Tuesday, citing examples of phrases and passages they believe show bias.

WASHINGTON: Parents raise Hell over CAIR request to teach Islam in public schools
HAMAS-linked CAIR-The Council of America Islamic Relations says it presented the Puyallup School District with a request to brainwash young students with propaganda about Islam and the Muslim religion as a way to ease fears and ‘educate’ students.

KOMO NEWS CAIR also made a request to the Puyallup School District for special accommodations for Muslim children during Ramadan and other holidays.

Dozens of parents say if one organization is allowed to come into the classroom and teach their children about the Muslim religion, then all religions should be represented. At a town hall meeting on Tuesday night, the parents’ message was clear: they don’t want religion being taught in public schools. “Muslims are welcome here, but if you’re going to be here, you get in line and become American first,” said parent Lisa Hedger.

Pierce County ACT! For America, an organization dedicated to concerned citizens and parents who feel CAIR has ulterior motives, says, “For America’s sake, we don’t think that it’s fair that Islam gets a pass and the other religions don’t, but also because CAIR is a front for the Muslim brotherhood,” said group member Kerry Hooks. “We have a real problem with organizations with ties to terrorism that come into the public schools.”

Children of 8 are 'racist' if they miss Islam trip: School's threatening letter to parents is met with outrage

Headmistress Lynn Small wrote to parents about multicultural school trip
Children will attend 'Explore Islam' workshop at Staffordshire University
'Racial Discrimination' would appear on permanent record if they didn't go
Parents at Littleton Green Community School in Huntington complained
Staffordshire County Council stepped in and head had to apologise

Parents were ordered to send their children to a workshop on Islam or have them labelled as racist for the rest of their school career.

They were sent a letter warning that the primary school pupils would have a ‘racial discrimination note’ put on their records if they did not go.

Families were told to pay Ł5 per child for the Explore Islam trip next Wednesday to Staffordshire University, which would involve Year 4 and Year 6 children being shown Islamic artefacts.
Parents accused Littleton Green community school of 'blackmailing' their children to go to a workshop on Islam

The letter: Parents were sent a letter which threatened to brand their children 'racist' if they didn't go

Mothers and fathers were warned: ‘Refusal to allow your child to attend will result in a Racial Discrimination note being attached to your child’s education record, which will remain on this file throughout their school career.

‘All absences on this day will be investigated for their credibility and will only be sanctioned with a GP sick note.’

Yesterday parents at Littleton Green Community School in Huntington, Staffordshire, said the threat to the pupils aged between eight and 11 was ‘ludicrous’. Gillian Claridge, 55, said: ‘How dare they threaten to brand the children racist at such a young age? It’s going to make them feel like little criminals.

‘The very nature of religion is all about choice. On this occasion they were not being given any choice at all. It was a draconian move and it’s left a lot of parents fuming.’

Stacy Waldron, 26, whose eight-year-old daughter is a pupil, said: ‘I feel my child will be [seen as] racist if I don’t allow her to go. This is my choice, not hers, and she shouldn’t have to pay for it.’

South Staffordshire MP Gavin Williamson described the threat as ‘bonkers’ and ‘a very heavy-handed approach’.

He added: ‘The idea of attaching a “racial discrimination note” to children’s education records saying it will remain on their file for the duration for their school career seems unfair, particularly when it is not the child’s decision whether or not he or she attends.’

According to the letter sent last Wednesday, the visit is part of the National Curriculum for religious education and also reflects ‘the multi-cultural community in which we live’.

It went on: ‘It is a statutory requirement for primary school children to experience and learn about different cultures.

'The workshop will give your child the opportunity to explore other religions.

‘Children will be looking at religious artefacts similar to those that would be on display in a museum. They will not be partaking in any religious practices.

‘If you would like to discuss this further, please contact our RE co-ordinator, Mrs Edmonds.’

However, the school backtracked just one day later after council officers intervened.

Littleton Green community school in Huntington, Staffordshire, was told it 'required improvement' by Ofsted

A revised letter sent out on Thursday apologised for ‘inaccuracies’ and told parents: ‘On reflection, disregard a section from the earlier letter.’

Headmistress Lynn Small said: ‘We are a mainly Christian school, but we have to cover at least one other religion as part of the National Curriculum. This visit is part of that.

‘They would not be taking part in any religious practices. We have had similar workshops on a variety of religions in the past, including one on Islam, with no problems at all and the children have absolutely loved it.
‘We have pupils and teachers who belong to the Islam faith and it is right for the children to understand and appreciate their faith as well as their own.’

A spokesman for Staffordshire County Council said it was important for children to learn about different cultures but that parents had the right to withdraw their children if they wished.

‘Clearly it is not appropriate for comments about racial discrimination to be made in these circumstances,’ he added.

An Ofsted report this year concluded that the school, which has 341 pupils, ‘required improvement’.
THE ORIGINAL LETTER FROM SCHOOL HEAD LYNN SMALL TO PARENTS

    Dear Parent/Carer,

As part of the National Religious Education Curriculum together with the multicultural community in which we live, it is a statutory requirement for Primary School aged children to experience and learn about different cultures.

The workshop is at Staffordshire University and will give your child the opportunity to explore other religions.

Children will be looking at religious artefacts similar to those that would be on display in a museum. they will not be partaking in any religious practices.

Refusal to allow your child to attend this trip will result in a Racial Discrimination note being attached to your child’s education record, which will remain on this file throughout their school career.

As such our expectations are that all children in years 4 and 6 attend school on Wednesday 27th November to take part in this trip.

All absences on this day will be investigated for their credibility and will only be sanctioned with a GP sick note.

If you would like to discuss this further please contact our RE Coordinator, Mrs Edmonds.

    School Bans the Word ‘Easter’
    Todd Starnes | Mar 26, 2013
    Todd Starnes

Boys and girls at an Alabama elementary school will still get to hunt for eggs – but they can’t call them ‘Easter Eggs’ because the principal banished the word for the sake of religious diversity.

“We had in the past a parent to question us about some of the things we do here at school,” said Heritage Elementary School principal Lydia Davenport. “So we’re just trying to make sure we respect and honor everybody’s differences.”

Television station WHNT reported that teachers were informed that no activities related to or centered around any religious holiday would be allowed – in the interest of religious diversity.

“Kids love the bunny and we just make sure we don’t say ‘the Easter Bunny’ so that we don’t infringe on the rights of others because people relate the Easter bunny to religion,” she told the television station. “A bunny is a bunny and a rabbit is a rabbit.”

Teachers had planned to have an Easter egg-themed quiz bowl where boys and girls would ring in with egg buzzers and search for answers hidden in Easter eggs.

“I don’t get upset about too many things, but this upsets me,” one parent wrote to the television station. “Even non-believers enjoy a good egg hunt. Kids need to enjoy being kids.”

Davenport reconsidered the ban after meeting with district leaders – but she still won’t allow teachers to use the word ‘Easter.’

“We compromised by allowing teachers to use other different kinds of shapes besides eggs in the classroom,” she told the television station.

But the good news, according to Madison City School Board member Phil Schmidt, is that students are going to be allowed to have eggs.

“The principal was trying to be extremely cautious about having anything religious in the school – probably more cautious than she needed to be,” he told Fox News. “In this world of schools, it’s probably better to be cautious than reckless. But at the same time you’ve got to use good judgment about it.”

Schmidt said Madison is a very religious community and when it comes to beliefs – they are diverse and tolerant.

At the same time, he said, it’s important to put things in perspective.

“Don’t over think it,” he said. “It’s the Easter Bunny. People have known there are multi-colored eggs that have been a symbol of Easter for a long, long, long, long time. I don’t think you want to over think it. I don’t think our parents want us to over think it.”

And besides, Schmidt pointed out – they even have an Easter Egg Roll at the White House.

“So having Easter eggs at a school doesn’t seem like it would be a huge stretch,” he said.

    TORONTO -

Muslim prayers have no place in a public school.

That’s the message the Canadian Hindu Advocacy and the Christian Heritage Party are sending the Toronto District School Board as they prepare to stage a picket outside the board’s Yonge St. head office next week.

“Enough’s enough, we draw the line here,” said G.J. Rancourt of CHP London during a press conference on Monday at the Toronto Zionist Centre on Marlee Ave. “Our holiest celebration is Christmas and we can no longer celebrate it in public schools. We don’t want to make people feel uncomfortable but we don’t want you to forget who we are. Why would (Muslims) impose your values on the rest of us when we’re accommodating?”

Security guards were at the ready for Islamic protesters at the centre but no one showed up.

Members of the Jewish Defence League and from two other Christian ministries are joining the fight against “pseudo-seculars” and to end to the Friday lunchtime prayer sessions in the cafeteria at Valley Park Middle School, on Overlea Blvd., which according to Rancourt, have been going on for at least three years.

“Let us be consistent, let us honour the Education Act,” said Rev. Tony Costa of Costa Christian Mission. “Muslims who want to pray can go to their mosques but this should not be done in a publicly and taxpayer-funded school system.”

Local imams are brought in to lead a 40-minute service with about 400 students in which the boys sit in front of girls in the lunch room. Girls who are said to be menstruating are told to sit at the very back.

Non-Muslims are banned from the room during prayers.

The coalition said the Islamic Society of Toronto is behind these prayer ceremonies.

“There is a great deal of gender apartheid going on where the women are separated from the men,” said Rob Banerjee of the Canadian Hindu Advocacy. “This is very much against Canadian values.”

The service has created controversy among parents and others who claim the

public school board should be secular and not have religious programming.

TDSB officials, who refused comment, have said the Muslim prayers are conducted in the cafeteria to address security issues stemming from students leaving classes to attend mosque.

The men allege some imams who are leading the prayer sessions belong to a local mosque that signed a petition calling for leniency of the Toronto 18 terror group.

The Islamic Society of Toronto did not return phone calls Monday night.

Meir Weinstein, of the Jewish Defence League Canada, is concerned children will be indoctrinated by radical or fundamental imams who are spreading their views.

“If these theories are taught in the public school system, it’s going to lead to tension and violence,” Weinstein said. “There’s absolutely no question about it.”

The protest outside the school board headquarters is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on July 25.

Olmsted Falls school district pulls video on Islam after conservative group raises possible legal challenge
    Print
Bruce Geiselman, Northeast Ohio Media Group By Bruce Geiselman, Northeast Ohio Media Group

Olmsted Falls school boardView full sizeThe Olmsted Falls school district has agreed to withdraw a video from the classroom that drew criticisms from a parent and a public-interest law firm.

OLMSTED FALLS, Ohio – Faced with the threat of a federal lawsuit, the Olmsted Falls schools have pulled a video about Muslims in America from its seventh-grade social studies curriculum.

School Superintendent Jim Lloyd said the district agreed to remove the 2005 documentary TV show, "30 Days: Muslims and America," rather than spend money defending the right to show it.

"Muslims and America" is narrated by Morgan Spurlock, best known for his film "Super Size Me," in which he ate only McDonald's for one month.
Do you agree that "30 Days: Muslims and America" should not be shown in school?

It follows a Christian man who lives as a Muslim for 30 days with a family in Dearborn, Mich., sharing the family's culture, studying the Koran and attending prayers.

Jenny McKeigue -- a mother of three who works for the district part-time as alumni director -- objected to the show, which her son saw in class in 2010. She said it promoted Islam and did not fairly represent all ethnic and religious groups.

"I said, you probably should remove the video," McKeigue said. "It's not historic and it's really inappropriate."

However, McKeigue said she didn't get anywhere with the district, and earlier this year, she contacted the Thomas More Law Center, in Ann Arbor, Mich., which in its own words "promotes Judeo-Christian heritage and moral values."

The law center called the program an "Islamic proselytizing video."

"Teachers may not constitutionally show videotapes that violate the neutrality they must maintain toward religion or that engages in religious instruction," said Richard Thompson, president and chief counsel of the law center. "Showing 'Muslims and America' violated those principles and the establishment clause of our Constitution. Under the guise of teaching the history of Islam to seventh-graders, history teachers were proselytizing students to the Islamic faith."

Since the video deals with Muslims in America in the 21st century, McKeigue and the Thomas More Law Center argued it was inappropriate for a class dealing with history.

The superintendent said the district was in no way trying to indoctrinate students.

"We don't teach a particular religion," Lloyd said. "We teach about the social study aspect that religion has on regions and other things."

In seventh grade, Olmsted Falls students learn about history from 750 B.C. to 1600 A.D., including information about Islam and the Crusades of the Middle Ages.

    "That's controversial stuff," Lloyd said.

He said McKeigue was the only parent who complained about the video. Lloyd, who currently is in his first year as superintendent, said he and other school officials made the decision to withdraw the video rather than face a legal challenge.

"We have limited resources that we get from the state and others, and we want to be responsible with our money," Lloyd said. "I'm not going to fight a legal battle over a 45-minute Morgan Spurlock video. It's not worth it. There's plenty of other resources out there for our teachers to use, so we simply pulled it."

Students only watched and discussed the video during one or one and a half periods during the school year, Lloyd said.

"In the grand scheme of things, on 178˝ other days, other things were taught," Lloyd said. "For me, in the grand scheme of things, it is one small bit of content."

While McKeigue said she is glad the video has been withdrawn, she still has concerns about how materials are selected for use in the classroom.
Are there any other videos, books or materials that you feel students should not be exposed to in school? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

"I hope that going forward there will be a review process for educational materials," she said. "The board and the administration need to listen to parents more. Parents have a lot to say. They could contribute a lot."

Meanwhile, the American Civil Liberties Union said a school district should be allowed to show a video that teaches about the culture of a religion. Chris Link, executive director of the Ohio ACLU expressed her belief that was the intention of the school district rather than to teach students to practice a religion.

Link said she found it troubling the school district would remove the video based on the complaint of one parent. She said the group's attorneys planned to look into the issue.

Julia Shearson, executive director of the Cleveland Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, said she didn't think the video crossed the line of proselytizing or providing religious instruction. Instead, it debunked common stereotypes about Islam and Muslims.

"Instead of being threatened with costly and baseless federal litigation, the school should have been applauded for having the courage to explore such complicated and nuanced topics," Shearson said.

Trying novel approaches to stretch the minds of students is a teacher’s job, she said.

However, in part because of the complex topics it offers, the material might be better suited for a high school civics class, Shearson added.

Massachusetts: School Retaliates Against Student For Parent’s Opposition to Pro-Islam, Anti-Israel Propaganda
    Islamization of the public school

Despite the Boston bombing, elected officials and school administrations in Massachusetts continue to islamize the public square and the public school. The Boston transit authority ran vicious Islamic antisemitic ads, while refusing our ads highlighting jihad and Islamic Jew hatred. Our lawsuit continues.

The Newton School district is punishing students who exposed their pro-jihad curriculum. A state education department found that a school district and School Committee Chair retaliated against a student because of her parent’s complaint about inaccurate and biased materials.

Concerned parents and students voiced concern over Islamic propaganda found in anti-Israel texts in Newton schools including “The Arab World Studies Notebook,” which claims that Israeli soldiers murdered hundreds of Palestinian nurses in Israeli prisons; “A Muslim Primer,” which claims that astronaut Neil Armstrong converted to Islam, but that the anti-Muslim U.S. government warned him “to keep his new religion to himself or he could be fired” from his government job; “Flashpoints: Guide to World History,” which asserts that Tel Aviv, not Jerusalem, is the capital of Israel, and that Jerusalem is the capital of “Palestine”; and other materials.

Newton School Superintendent David Fleischman “tried to charge the taxpayers $1,600” for a list of the anti-Israel teaching materials, while Newton School Committee Chair Matt Hills “told staff not to let citizens see the offending materials,” according to the ads. Fleischman and Hills both did not immediately return requests from comment from JNS.org.

Watch VIDEO: Terror-tied Muslim group MSA Enforces Sharia at UCLA

During the Jan. 16-18 weekend, the Muslim Student Association (MSA) West brought over 1,000 Muslim students from West coast campuses to UCLA for a 3-day conference. On Saturday (1-17-15), a non-Muslim visitor filmed 100s of them praying outdoors, blasting “Allahu Akbar” from loudspeakers. Two MSA West security guards threatened to call cops if he didn’t stop. He kept filming and later, 7 cops did come to keep him out of the conference.

The Muslim Student Association is a Muslim Brotherhood group, named an unindicted co-conspirator in the largest terrorist funding trial in our nation’s history.

On a bright Saturday, 1-17-15, a visitor to UCLA filmed 100s of Muslims praying en masse, broadcasting “Allahu Akbar!” with loudspeakers in an open square where everyone could see. It was one of eight in-your-face prayer demos forced on all during the Muslim Student Association West Conference.

Two conference security guards came up as he filmed and told him to stop! Believing he had the right to film anything in a wide open, state university square, at a distance too far to bother anyone, he kept filming.

But the security guards wouldn’t go. They tried to block him and kept threatening to call the cops if he didn’t stop.

Here’s where taqiyya comes in: Watch the video. Try to hear what the security guards say. Notice how, when off camera, they insist he has to stop or they’ll call cops:

Female: “I’m gonna call UCPD right now if you don’t stop right now and delete it.”

But when the camera sees their faces, they INSTANTLY change expression!

Female (smiles): “How’s it going? I hope you’re doing well today!”

Male: “We really do hope you’re having a beautiful day. You know? We’re very happy to see you.”

That’s taqiyya! Muslims say they don’t do it, and even call non-Muslims “Islamophobes” if they mention it. But there it is, plain as day, naked taqiyya (at 1:32).

The security guards made good their threat: Later, seven cops came to stop the visitor from attending any more conference sessions.

On TV, Muslims say Islam is peaceful and tolerant. But at a conference of over a thousand Muslims from all over the West coast, there was no tolerance for this non-Muslim who simply tried to show others what he saw.

Denver: Schoolgirls Forced to Wear Headcarves, “Ankles Must Be Covered” on School Trip to Denver Mosque
Current Affairs Islamic law in America Islamization of the public school

    Sharia in the classroom.

School girls at a Douglas County public school in Colorado are being forced to cover up from head-to-toe to visit a mosque on a school mandated Common Core trip. There are no requirements to visit a Greek Orthodox cathedral or synagogue.

Here again we see that anywhere American law and Islamic law conflict, it is American law that has to give way.

The subjugation and oppression of women are enshrined under the sharia. Young school girls should not be forced to “respect” a dress code that represents honor violence, female genital mutilation, forced marriage, child marriage, et al.

I appeared on the Peter Boyles Show this morning and we discussed the concern of parents who had contacted him asking for help in opposing this sharia in the classroom. Here is a copy of the instructions parents were given:

The world religions field trip is next Tuesday, January 13. We will be visiting the Denver Mosque, the Assumption Greek Orthodox Cathedral, and the Rodef- Shalom Synagogue. We will then eat lunch at Park Meadows Food Court.
Students must either bring a sack lunch or money to
purchase lunch at the food court.
THERE IS A DRESS CODE FOR THIS TRIP: All students must wear appropriate long pants. Ankles must be covered. Girls must bring wide scarves or hooded sweatshirts for the mosque
