At present, Palermo are the only Sicilian squad in Serie A.

Catania and Trapani are in Serie B. Messina was a big deal but barely exists as a pro club anymore.

Without a Sicilian rival, and with Reggina relegated to Lega Pro, Palermo have to look to Cagliari and Napoli for their derby antagonists.

Palermo's only friends are Lecce, who have also been relegated. It's a very tough time for Palermo indeed. All of their closest friends and rivals are out of the top league.
