Turk nationalism grew as reactionary nationalism against minority nationalisms (Orthodox and sometimes Muslim) which destroyed the empire. The Turks arent chauvinists. They pushed Turks to this. Also Ataturk isnt god in Turkish nationalism, he was a nationalist himself.

There's too much bashing of nationalism on this forum already, and I don't think this thread helps. Most Apricians don't seem to understand the concept but confuse it with historical hitlerism, totalitarianisms or other highly intolerant forms of government. Yet some confuse it with racism. I see no problem with opting for the term patriotism instead, but that's a lot like like mixing apples and pears. Nationalism comes from a realization that today's modern societies need some policies to preserve anything at all of their cultures. Patriotism is the sentiment on a personal level of attachment to homeland etc.

Thank you, that's another thing which is not synonymous with nationalism. I don't want to shoot anyone though, since I think that's potentially bad for human relations too.
