Whenever I hear music like this, I feel like it could easily be in Yiddish, from Ashkenazi communities. A similar style can be heard in Jewish music today. I sent it to someone though who suggested it sounds more like Sephardi music.

    Does anyone agree?

First song, though it sounds more like Si Maritau Rosa (another Sicilian song):

That style of music only exists in the south.

Most Yiddish music was influenced by Eastern European styles, which makes sense considering that was where it was developed. Any similarities are coincidental.
