Põhjamaa means Northern land/Nordic country, Põhjamaalane means Northerner, one from Northern/Nordic land.

It was one before WW2, before USSR placed Estonia into a totally different geopolitical group.

There's a reason why Finnish, Swedish and Danish volunteers helped Estonia during the Estonian Freedom War(1918-1920) and risked their lives to beat out the Russians from Estonia.

Except Nordic is not a geopolitical term but rather a cultural one. In which Estonia is Finnic/Baltic.
