Default Who are the English mostly descended from?

Briton Celts, Normans or Anglo-Saxons? I know they are a mix of these, but which are they mostly?

Over the course of time the English is essentially a mix between native celtic Britons, Anglo Saxons, Normans, etc. Essentially a mix between native Celtic people with Germanic influences. Whereas Cornwall and Wales retain the native Celtic/Briton identity. The Scots are a mix between Gaels and Picts with Scandinavian influences.

Nevertheless, despite this the English cluster closely with the Irish, Scots and Welsh genetically despite these influences. They are one and the same.

You can check out this to see the origin of surnames the are prevalent on the British Isles to see where its more prevalent which can be Northern England, Scotland, Wales, etc.:

Genetically there is little difference between English and their Celtic neighbours so I'd be willing to say that they are of mostly Celtic-Brythonic stock with Anglo-Saxon and Norman influence being mostly linguistic and cultural and to a lesser extent genetic.

it does but it's not a half-romance half-germanic language as some people insist, a language is either germanic or not and english is germanic

The base and grammar of the English language is Germanic and it's officially classified as a West Germanic language.

Also, Norwegian Vikings settled in some regions too, such as the Wirral region, and Jutes from Denmark settled in the central south coast, and Danish Vikings settled in the north-east. After the Romans left, the islands were colonised by Angles, Saxons and Jutes, and Celts were pushed into Scotland, Wales, Cornwall, and then later Vikings and Normans arrived.

The Vikings brought over 600 words into the English vocabulary, words such as 'knife', and 'troll', for instance, are English words of Scandinavian origin, whilst 'blood' is a word of Germanic origin. The Normans introduced 15000 words into the English vocabulary with words like 'government' being of French origin.
