Today while driving to San Francisco, I stopped off a town called Solvang. Solvang means "sunny field" and was founded in 1911 by some danish educators, and was built on 9000 acres of spanish land grants.
danish educators immediately went to work building a danish folk school. In 1914 the school moved to newly constructed Atterdag College, where students learned the basics and a love of Danish culture. Atterdag College is gone, but it's spirit still infuses the town.
Solvang is all about Danish Heritage, and preservation. I thought I'd share this Danish town in California with you guys...
I have photos, but I'm currently processing them, and uploading, will be a few minutes.
