Opinions on Multiculturalism

IMO Multiculturalism = Horrible. What makes Europe particularly beautiful is the variety of cultures in them, and how they vary, and their common roots and cuisines etcetera. The list goes on. Diversity within Europe is what makes Europe what we know it to be. We must do everything to stop blurring the lines, as encouraged by Americanisation, and to stop undoing thousands of years of cultural development. If you want a melting pot of cultures, go to America. Obviously the situation is not dire at the moment, but, with increased connectivity and mobility becoming progressively cheaper and more accessible, it may turn that way. Moreover, there are now plenty of non-European cultures being accepted in Europe: Arabic, South Asian, and African American culture to name but a few. I'm completely fine with immigrants coming into such countries (although I would like at the very least 75% of the population to be the general indigenous peoples (as of roughly 1500 CE)) and respecting the culture, but many do not align whatsoever with the parent culture. I would classify London not as an English city, but as an international city, in terms of culture. Anyway, opinions?

My impression when I was in a multicultural country was negative, I had no difficulty to accept some cultures but others were too distant and I must admit that I considered them inferior in my mind, although I dared to say it only at home.

When I came back to Italy I felt at home and it was like "Finally back", but after some months I felt that I had changed and I didn't stand anymore some aspects of Italian culture.

So I don't know, I am quite perplexed about this topic. I consider myself multicultural.

But why do you want to do that considering you're jewish?

I think maybe more money should be allocated to cultural events such as festivals/celebrations, so as to hopefully instigate patriotism. IMO there are four main ways we can combat multiculturalism:

1) Educate the masses, in the hope of assimilating minorities into the parent culture.
2) Enforce far stricter immigration, only allowing the most skilled of workers to enter the country.
3) Higher taxes should reduce the birth rate of the poor, and, as most minorities are poor, this would reduce the relative population ratio of minorities to the general indigenous population & those who have been assimilated into the parent culture.

Or alternatively: 4) We could try our utmost to alienate those who do not accept the parent culture, thereby opportunities in e.g. employment would ONLY arise if people of these minorities assimilated.

I don't hate it at all considering I live in America and in a pretty diverse neighborhood. My perspective maybe different because of where I live though.

I'm personally against it. I prefer assimilation. Clearly, the way to go is to assimilate all foreign cultures into the dominant culture of a state, as there can never be harmony between different cultural groups.
