    Surprise, surprise:

Helsinki Police Probe String of Break-Ins

An exceptional number of apartment burglaries were carried out in Helsinki last weekend. Police suspect that Romanian criminals were involved.

Most of the break-ins occurred at high-end flats in the city centre, and took place in the evenings or at night. At least seven such burglaries have been reported.

The robbers primarily made off with cash and jewellery. Police say that unusually heavy-duty methods were used to break into the homes, some of which had high-security locks. They believe that the perpetrators had studied their target locations in advance.

The little finnish town Pietarsaari with about 20.000 inhabitants had in 1970 some 130 gypsies living in the town which I think was a very hight number considering how little the town is. The gypsies had moved in from Sweden. They have since that moved southward over the years and the number is now much smaller. But there has always been trouble with this group, thefts, rows etc.

When me and my friends were backpacking we got stranded in the middle of the night in a small town in the north of Finland (I think it was called Kemi or some such) and we were totally freaked out by families (y?) of gypsies that were hanging around the bars near the bus station. We decided against trying to get something to eat and just sat on the bench a little bit out of the way for the rest of the night ...most of the time we spent talking about how misserable we were and how scary and depressing this town was .

Don't get too upset about it. Everyone in this country knows what the deal is whenever some "Romanian" or "Bulgarian" criminals are mentioned in the news.
