Rugby is another sport from England, it's popular sport with the middle-classes and it's popular in New Zealand, Wales, Australia and South Africa too. The World Rugby Cup will be hosted in England this year. It's a very masculine type of sport and the crowd atmosphere is normally well-behaved. American Football stems from Englands game of rugby (except they wear helmets and lots of protective padding.) American baseball stems from a combination of Englands game of rounders and cricket.

I thought it was a joke when I read "Swedish Rugby", but it does make sense they have expatriates forming teams.

Yes it is very big in Australia as it has major teams especially in NSW and Queensland. I am from Victoria, where Australian rules football rules. Also New Zealand, South Africa and some south pacific islands. What I was saying, in Europe, Rugby is big in the British isles, France, Italy and Ireland. I do prefer Australian rules football, and I follow the St kilda football team. Go the Saints:

Most Swedes barely know what rugby is, it's not popular at all. It seems most of the few who play and start teams are Western immigrants (Anglos, Frenchmen etc.)

The only sports Swedes really care for in large numbers are hockey, wintersports and football.

I was astonished in Australia to see rugby (I mean proper rugby, union) wasn't that popular, and that everyone was just raving about that weird broom-less quidditch with players having a massive wanker right-arm.
