    Default Belarusian Litvinism

In recent years, in Belarus, gaining strength absurd political-historical concept - "Litvinizm." Litvinists say that the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth - Belarusian (or for the most part Belarusian) states. What do you think about this?

Is there any information on this in English? Sounds like a bizarre theory. So, Litvins think Belarus influenced Poland and Lithuania? Culturally?

In two words this ideology bases on thesis that Belarussian culture was greatly influenced by GDL and later PLC and thus belarussians are Litvins (term used for inhabitans of GDL).

Overall one can see this as couter-ideology for Russinism or concept of Three-united Russian people.

I see. I had it in reverse. Sometimes, I think it was better when the three Eastern Slavs were united. Like when I was little and asked my old Ukrainian great-uncle were he was from. He would hold up the palm of his hand and point out: "Here is Great Russia, Here is White Russia, Here is Little Russia. I from Little Russia. We all one Russia." Blasphemy to say that today, huh?

Not really imo, i see the centrifugal tendencies among Belarussians and Ukrainians as a result of bad socioeconomical situation in Russia.

Grand Duchy of lithuania was founded by a lithuanian, its capital was a Lithuanian city. Lithuania conquered belarussia and ukraine and integrated its cultures and languages into its own but that doesn't change the fact that the GDL was lithuanian.

They are right, the Grand Duchy of Lithuania during its golden age was more Belarusian than Lithuanian - though of course its beginnings are Lithuanian. Compare it to the case of the Eastern Roman Empire - founded by Latin-speaking Romans, but later taken over by Greek culture (see: the Byzantine Empire). Same was the case with Lithuania - founded by Baltic-speaking Lithuanians, but taken over first by Belarusian culture and later (after the Union of Lublin of 1569) by Polish culture. In the end it had more of Belarusian and Polish than of Lithuanian inhabitants.

No, Lithuanians failed to integrate anyone.

Instead, they got integrated by Belarusians (and later both of them by Poles). The official language of the Grand Duchy was Belarusian and later Polish, just like Greek replaced Latin as the official language of the Eastern Roman Empire, and the ERE was a Greek state.

In two words this ideology bases on thesis that Belarussian culture was greatly influenced by GDL and later PLC
Culture of the GDL was basically Belarusian culture. Official language was Belarusian (later also Polish). As I wrote - comparison with the Byzantine Empire is the best. Byzantine Empire was a Greek state, even though it had originated from the Latins (Romans). Let's note that before Lithuania adopted Western Christianity from Poland, most of its population was already Orthodox, not Pagan. And those were not just Belarusians who were Orthodox, but also some ethnic Lithuanians adopted this religion (though others remained Pagan for some time).

It is not absurd at all. Belarusians were loyal citizens of the GDL who defended it from Muscovite (Russian) invaders.

It was Russian and then Soviet brainwashing which convinced Belarusians that they are just Russian peasants, which is false.

The 1500s was the golden age of Belarusian high culture and literature in Belarusian language. Only later high culture became Polish.
