Mitochondrial DNA ancestry

The analysis of mtDNA revealed that the contributions from the three parental groups were 6.6% African, 24% Native American and 69.3% European. Among the controls, 3.1% of individuals carried an African haplogroup, 26.5% a Native American haplogroup, and 70.4% a European haplogroup, whereas among the cases, the respective figures were 7.5%, 27.4% and 65.1% (Table ​(Table2).2). The case and control groups were not different from each other (p = 0.35). A detailed distribution of each mitochondrial haplogroup analysed is also shown in Table ​Table22.

Wow... That's quite high!

I mean... European maternal contribution (mtDNA) among Latin American countries almost never exceeds 15% (just in Cuba and the Atlantic South American countries)... so 70% of European mtDNA in Uruguay is just insane!

Got my grandma tested, she's 65% European, 20% SSA, 15% Amerind.

Her SSA is very dubious, as she has what looks like sefardi jewish. looking closely at gedmatch it should be 18%, but 2% wont change anything lol
She definitively doesnt look quadroon, light eyes, hair, skin. genetic is weird. lol

Not strange at all... I've seen many Puerto Ricans within that range (65% Euro/20% Sub-Saharan) and they look Caucasian... although if she were 25% SSA her look would be quite different, not to mention 30% SSA. I've noticed that non-Caucasian looks tend to appear in biracials and triracials when an non-European ancestry group exceeds 20-22%.

Not strange at all... I've seen many Puerto Ricans within that range (65% Euro/20% Sub-Saharan) and they look Caucasian... although if she were 25% SSA her look would be quite different, not to mention 30% SSA.

that is what bugs me, 20% look caucasian, while 25% would look obviously mixed.. this is why race is complicated concept in latin america, she is considered white here, while her genotype says otherwise, she told me: "having black doesnt change who I am or my beliefs" she cared less for native, she kinda like the amerind

im 25% SSA (im a quadroon with 10% native) and its obvious at this point, also quadroons or ppl like me or mulattoes in many cases we look different when we'er youunger, when i was younger i was actually more blonde than sweetalmonds (idk of thats her real hair) and now i have brown hairs

it really is complicated

my grandma is more mixed than you then, by 1 %, 20% SSA, 16% native, still looking "passable" even with old age. I created a thread here long ago, people didnt guess she was that mixed, but anyway, seems legit, judging by her father.
But she has in fact, on or two portuguese grandparents.
