Default Does big vocabulary = high IQ?

What are your thoughts on this? For some reason when someone speaks with a big vocabulary they are thought of as being very intelligent. But is this the actual case? Is it possible that the big vocabulary is being mistaken for IQ/Intelligence?

To tell the truth, if we take in consideration the different cognitive components in one's mind, how one allocates their cognitive strengths is inevitably dependent on one's plasticity (essentially the mind being very malleable/adaptable by nature, where it allocates its mental energies to different cognitive processes for executive functioning). So in a way how one articulates their sentence structures in some respects expresses that their mind is of considerable intelligence. Since our mind is shaped by our interactions in brain development in the prenatal periods in the womb (environmental) and our genetic inheritances that is predisposed in our biological clock.

IQ tests focus too much on verbal crap and not enough on logix. If you have a high IQ you almost always have a high vocabulary but I don't see it as the best estimator.

Big vocabulary is for pseudo intellectuals, the real ingenuity is in conveying information in the simplest terms possible.

I sort of agree to this. Yes I believe you should be easily understood by others instead of complicating things but on the other hand some richness for the sake of making it more interesting and illustrative also helps.

    I voted "only partially".

To know "big scary word", its etymology, and how to use it properly requires that you not be completely retarded.

On the other hand they're just sounds that express ideas; some are can express very particular ideas that other more commonplace words cannot, especially scientific terminology, but by and large big words just express mundane thoughts with some added frills.

A big vocabulary allows you to express thoughts with more nuance and precission than with a small vocabulary.

Something I always found interesting is how languages relate to indigneous IQ. Areas with low IQ such as South East Asia and Africa have very primitive languages, lacking past, present, future tense for example.

A European will have words to describe whether an action was done yesterday, today or will be done in the future, while and African and South East Asian does not. They will say literally: I go shop tomorrow or I go shop yesterday'.

This shows a lack of future and past time orientation consistent with a primitive magical reality where each day is the birth of the universe over and over. You see this bastardization of language with American blacks too. They remove words from language consistently. For example, they don't differentiate between singular, plural. It's not 'He has gone' or 'They have gone' but 'he be gone' or 'they be gone'. This also shows a lack of cultural emphasis on discerning individuality and group, consistent again with primitive tribal magical reality.
