Swedish police in New York

Apparently a lot of people in the US found this very astonishing. That a couple of off-duty newly examined police men could handle the situation without using violence. Should the American police take after the Swedish police in situations like these? It's almost like they have been praised as heroes in the American news papers the last days.

The Scandinavian patrolmen said they were on their way to see a performance of Les Misérables when they heard the operator of their uptown 6 train yell frantically over the intercom: “Are there any police officers on the train?!”

“We thought maybe someone needed help,” said Samuel Kvarzell, 25, a rookie with the Stockholm Police Department.

When they made their way to the front of the train, they saw one homeless man beating the other senseless, as terrified straphangers fled the car into the Bleecker Street station.

“One of the guys was on top of the other guy, so we separated them,” said 25-year-old Markus Asberg, who recently joined the force in the city of Uppsala.

Asberg shielded the victim while Kvarzell and fellow cops Eric Jansberger and Erik Naslund restrained the aggressor, who was screaming and resisting the Nordic heroes.

The three cops eventually wrestled the man into submission and managed to apply an arm lock, while waiting for the NYPD to arrive.

“[The attacker] was making a lot of noise, yelling on the train at apparently no one,” said a witness who declined to give his name. “The other guy did nothing.”

Asberg said the victim didn’t make any real effort to defend himself and appeared to have been badly injured.

“He looked hurt; he was bleeding from the mouth,” he said. “I was trying to keep him calm.”

NYPD cops finally arrived and hauled the attacker away, but did not immediately release his identity.

“It was pretty routine,” said Jansberger, who downplayed their efforts. “We came just to make sure no one got hurt. We were trying to stop the fight.”

Asberg said he and his fellow cops were in desperate need of a beer before proceeding to the Broadway show.

“We came here for vacation; we’ve been here one day,” he said. “We’re no heroes, just tourists.”

Probably staged. USA cops are short, fat and ethnic. Just like SvenDC. They can't subdue anyone without a taser or club. It's really not worth it to try, cops already get tons of injuries. In UK they have similar methods to sweden and just one guy freaking out can cause a dozen injuries.

It's actually a hundred times worse on american streets than in swedenig etc. Having cops try this shit is a recipe for disaster. It's already a disaster for the really violent cases in europe, but they are about a thousand times less frequent than here.

Any time I've been in NYC I see plenty of cops. None of them fit that description. Lots of short italians and big fat black women. The only white guy over 6' I ever saw was also over 300 pounds.

It depends what kind of cops. If you seen big fat women they are probably the ones that watch the street crossings for schoolkids. I've had the chance to see quite a few of them and the majority are white even if they arent tall, 5.10-6 is probably the most common height just like all civilians in general (these guys look that height too).

They were tourists on vacation, do you think this was staged to send policemen out there without guns? I dont think so.

These guys are admirable, taking such a risk is not what everyone would do, however this is a clear index that they are very dedicated to their job, and I think that Sweden and the UK have the best police force in Europe.

Swedes are open minded, tolerant and fit in societies at a very fast rate, as they did in the US which gained a lot from Swedes, taking Minesotta as an example of a rich state with hard working people that managed not only to assimilate but also improve the American culture.

Swedish men are usually over 6 foot and weigh around 200 pounds. Of course they can easily handle some somalis without guns.

In USA the blacks come from west africa and most are not big but the congoid ones can be extremely large. The blacks here are also about 50 times as violent as east africans and arabs. They also gang up into large groups as well. Average cop today just cannot do this even on easy case like this, let alone in more serious case where there's half a dozen guys. Let alone a riot.

Anyway it's just more propaganda against cops and against guns. When you don't have guns though you are at complete mercy of the ever more corrupt government though.

Scandinavia and the United States are two different places. Plus there were four of them. They were of good size and shape and there were only two people they were up against who were already against eachother. Considering they were also unarmed. This isn't the most difficult situation in the world. And saying they weren't using violence is complete bs. How else did they pin those guys to the ground? They didn't ask them to lie down and then sit on them like that.
I hate how Scandinavians view the US. Scandinavian society functions much more effectively at least from the places i've been, but its also much less complicated and easier to deal with too.
Those Scandinavian police handled it the same way most American police would have too. US police just have a bad rep because they don't get media coverage unless they are doing something terrible, which happens quite a lot in a country of 315 million people.
