Brazil fan kills himself after Cup exit

A young Haitian football fan was so distraught at Brazil's World Cup exit on Friday that he killed himself by leaping in front of a car, according to witnesses contacted by an AFP photographer.

The 18-year-old died after the incident, which took place in Nerette, on the outskirts of the Haitian capital, following Brazil's 2-1 defeat by the Netherlands in the quarter-finals.

During the World Cup, Brazilian wins were celebrated by street parties that brought a rare dash of colour and joy to a country still struggling to rebuild after the devastation of the January earthquake.

There's nothin that can justify one suicidein for a football match...
If I told you what usually happens here you wouldn't believe (gang of hoolingans who control the merchandise and threat coaches/presidents to order wich players to buy , those to sell and even those to put in the pitch , invasions of pitch by fans who threat players and make a macth suspended because perharps betting reasons , fans who kill each other as in a mass murder (Heysel Sheffield etc))
It has became a circus , it's not more just sport.

In Europe , especially in Italy and the East , football has atracted the extremists who can't fight on a political ground , so they fight inside the stadia.
And the politicians close both the eyes.

As someone who has been treated for depression, my two cents worth.

The triggers for suicide are at once both complex and simple; having had self-destructive thoughts, very vividly and very strongly.

Luckily for my family and friends, as they would bear the brunt of my actions, my thinking is usually on the complex "what are ALL the consequences" side of things. I think it helped that I was older when I suffered these ill effects and had a sense of responsibility to others fully ingrained.

But, and this may be why I do not invest much of myself outside of myself and those closest to me, if one is passionate about something, if one has invested much of one's self-image in this outside "force," then one becomes a "kite in the wind."

Here in the US, we have had many suicides over the years make a big splash as people tried to blame the triggers, instead of understanding the more personal "Why? of the self murder, the totality of the act.

Your high school team loses the "big game," you are bullied beyond despair, a favorite character in a role-playing game "dies," family finances are a shambles, the world just looks so bleak through a haze of ennui, your beliefs in something are shattered by the evil acts of those you trusted...

Any trigger is a "last straw" for someone who is predisposed by some sort of mental illness or defect to self-destruct.

Once in awhile you can hang your feet over the edge of the abyss and pull back...
